#REC18

#REC18 was my first year on the conference team. I came on as an events associate in September of 2017 assisting with all operational logistics, not knowing that my future occupation would later turn out to be event management.

I soon became enamoured by the role, the team, and wholeheartedly bought into what we were creating, which was a space to connect individuals interested in the entertainment space with some of the best industry leaders. By the end of my first year on the team, I was 100% bought into REC and all the potential it had to grow.

The 2 day conference included a series of panels, keynotes, and an in-house art installation curated by our creative team. Being on the events team, this became an all-hands on deck type of role where I was not only responsible for operational logistics but also lent a hand curating panels, finding speakers, and assistant producing creative content (videos, marketing campaigns, etc.).

At the time, the in-house art installation was a first for Ryerson and REC, as no other conference was offering this. Was it a little ambitious? Most definitely, as this would add to our operational budget, but it soon became a standard for future REC events in the following years.
