#REC19
#REC19 was my second year on the conference team as Executive Vice President. After joining as an events associate the previous year, I initially planned on staying on the events team but there was a vacancy for Executive Vice President. I felt way under qualified, but after the speaking to both the previous and incoming president, I went for it. The worst that could happen is that they say no, and I would have ended up as an Events Team Lead, which is what I (thought) wanted to begin with.
I learned the most this conference year. The team looked entirely different from last year’s and it was definitely challenging navigating this change with onboarding new members, and trying to build a cohesive unit to plan and execute the 2-day conference. As EVP, my responsibilities and duties quadrupled in size. I was no longer just running a conference, I was responsible for managing people and expectations - managing a team, on top of producing content, building a run of show, and assisting with operational budgeting . It was my role to help navigate and develop effective internal communications amongst everyone on the conference team to help promote morale, and achieve organizational goals.
